Pressure washers can clean patios, siding and outdoor equipment, but too much pressure or the wrong nozzle can damage surfaces.

Electric versus gas

Electric units are generally suited to lighter household cleaning and can be simpler to maintain. Gas units may offer greater cleaning capability for demanding jobs but require fuel, ventilation and maintenance.

Pressure and water flow

PSI describes pressure; GPM describes water flow. Both affect cleaning performance, so do not shop on PSI alone. Confirm the surface and attachment manufacturer’s limits.

Nozzles and accessories

A wider spray pattern is often gentler than a narrow jet. Surface cleaners may improve consistency on appropriate hard surfaces. Check hose length, connector compatibility and detergent guidance.

Protect delicate materials

Test in an inconspicuous spot, keep a safe distance and avoid directing high-pressure water at windows, electrical fixtures, damaged wood or loose siding.

Safe operation

Never aim a pressure-washer jet at people or animals. Use eye protection, appropriate footwear and manufacturer-approved detergents. Gas engines must not be operated in enclosed spaces.
