How to Plan Better Lighting for a Garage Workshop
A practical guide to garage lighting coverage, color temperature and safe installation.
This guide explains what to compare before buying. It does not claim hands-on testing, quote live prices, or rank specific models without verification.
Measure the space and work zones
Start with your garage dimensions, ceiling height, benches, and vehicle parking area. A workbench often needs task lighting beyond general overhead fixtures.
Compare lumens and distribution
Lumens describe total light output, but fixture placement and beam spread affect whether you get dark corners or glare. Do not compare products on wattage alone.
Choose useful color rendering
Neutral-to-cool white lighting is common in workspaces. Look at color rendering information if you do detailed painting, wiring, or finish work.
Check mounting and electrical safety
Use fixtures rated for the installation environment. Hardwired electrical changes should follow local codes and may require a licensed electrician.
Shortlist by use case
